Every 16 seconds, a baby dies during pregnancy, birth, or shortly after. Most of these deaths occur in Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia, yet these areas have had very little research to prevent them.
The SABAR project [NIHR132027] brings together health professionals from countries like Pakistan, India, Kenya, and Uganda to develop better ways to care for mothers and babies.
This includes improving hospital care, community support, and respectful treatment for grieving parents. It also works closely with midwives, nurses, and families to ensure the solutions are practical and sensitive.
Pakistan is involved in work packages to:
- Helpparents takepart in the careof theirsick babies
- Improve bereavement care for parents after loss
- Create global standards to measure outcomes
- Work with community groups to shape better care practices
